A new television ad starting today in 11 states and over 27 media markets educates citizens about the straining effects of out-of-control government spending on the American taxpayer.
The street of Hollywood are paved with tax dollars, not gold but the $862 billion stimulus paid for pork barrel projects all across the country, including $1.1 million to pave Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, while America lost 2.7 million jobs,” the ad states.
View the ad here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCCIQuKTo7Q
The pork barrel stimulus cost every American family $10,000. The wasteful spending must stop.
The $4.1 million ad buy will run on network and cable channels in Arkansas, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin starting today, August 16, and will continue through August 29.
The TV ad is part of Americans for Prosperity Foundation’s Spending Crisis initiative, which educates citizens on the disastrous effects of wasteful government spending. Washington’s wasteful spending habits are bankrupting America. Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity Foundation, said “Hardworking taxpayers deserve to know that their tax dollars are being used wisely.”
The ad also encourages citizens to go to http://www.SpendingCrisis.org/ where they can share examples of wasteful spending in their area.

Obama stoops to trash grassroots organiztion - Keep up the good work!
President Barack Obama was at the plush Four Seasons Hotel addressing mega-donors to the Democratic Party on Monday when he attempted to trash Americans for Prosperity:
“Right now all around this country there are groups with harmless-sounding names like Americans for Prosperity, who are running millions of dollars of ads against Democratic candidates all across the country. And they don't have to say who exactly the Americans for Prosperity are. You don't know if it’s a foreign-controlled corporation. You don't know if it’s a big oil company, or a big bank. You don't know if it’s a insurance company that wants to see some of the provisions in health reform repealed because it’s good for their bottom line, even if it’s not good for the American people.
“A Supreme Court decision allowed this to happen. And we tried to fix it, just by saying disclose what’s going on, and making sure that foreign companies can’t influence our elections. Seemed pretty straightforward. The other side said no.
“They don't want you to know who the Americans for Prosperity are, because they're thinking about the next election. But we’ve got to think about future generations. We’ve got to make sure that we’re fighting for reform. We’ve got to make sure that we don't have a corporate takeover of our democracy.”
Today, radio talk show host Mark Levin rebuked Obama:
https://www.sickofspending.com/levin_clipped.mp3
Obama specifically attacked AFP by name. Is this Presidential? Who does this? A Hugo Chavez wanna-be does this. Americans for Prosperity is trying to save this republic.
It is worth a listen.
AFP existed long before the Citizens United decision. And long before Obama was on the national scene – and will be around long after he has left office.
Obama will not intimidate us…will not drive us away. Honest American citizens can influence this government and stop the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Agenda.
After all, we aren’t Americans for Redistributing Wealth – we are Americans for Prosperity.
When the President is so worried about YOU – Americans for Prosperity members – and we are using the community organizing tools against the Community Organizer.
He wants to demean, smear…if you weren’t effective, he would not waste his time. Yes, we are on his radar screen. He can watch us…we will not go away.
We are to defend the constitution and stand on the shoulders of the Founding Fathers and we won’t be intimidated.
We are creating a new army of patriots. Hundreds of thousands of us. Our goal is nothing less than liberty.
Here are Obama’s Austin remarks:

Mark Levin amplifies voice of AFP
Mark Levin is partnering with Americans for Prosperity.
AFP is partnering with Mark Levin to harness the grassroots Americans who are the voice of liberty and are willing to remind elected officials that November IS coming… www.NovemberIsComing.com.
On a conference call today with key activists, Levin asked "without the grassroots, would DC be listening? Would even one party be listening?"
If elected officials vote for bigger government, if they ignore our constitutional government, and continue to ignore the will of the people, the voters will vote against them in November.
After all, without grassroots Americans rising up and making sure their voices are heard, who would be listening?
Mark Levin is known as a constitutional lawyer and a nationally syndicated broadcaster, but he is, first and foremost, a dog lover (which endears him to me, as I am The Gipper’s Mom.)
You can hear Mark Levin as a spokesman for the November Is Coming effort live streamed 6-9 pm TX time: http://www.marklevinshow.com/sectional.asp?id=32930 (or catch the replay 24/7).
Or listen live on the radio. Here are major radio stations where Levin’s show broadcasts in Texas:

Forget Reconciliation - the fight is in the House
Never matter what the ObamaCare addicts call it -- reconciliation, nuclear option, or "a simple majority", the Senate isn't where the action will be. The action will happen in the House.
As AFP Policy Director Phil Kerpen wrote on FoxNews.com:
Ultimately, it doesn't matter whether or not the Senate passes changes to its health care bill via reconciliation. That's because the reconciliation process cannot even begin until after the House passes the Senate bill exactly as it passed the Senate on Christmas Eve. That means it must pass with the abortion language already rejected by Rep. Bart Stupak and others still intact. It also must pass with the outrageous pork barrel spending deals cut for Nebraska, Louisiana, Connecticut, and others. In other words, the bill must pass the House with everything in it that the American people have already made clear they hate.

Jobs bill, ObamaCare, Congressional disapproval - oh, my
As home sales have dropped AGAIN, this news just in:
The Senate has approved a $15 billion jobs bill, 70 to 28. The next stop is the House where Democratic leaders are weighing whether to pass the Senate version or go to conference to reconcile it with the $154 billion jobs bill the House passed in December. (Washington Post)
Just a $100 BILLION difference?
“Let’s use reconciliation” – sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
This, as Congressional disapproval is now at 75%!!! http://www.pollingreport.com/CongJob1.htm
And they wonder why the American taxpayer doesn’t approve of the job they are doing.
Now Obama is taking his ObamaCare #3 (the worst of the House and Senate healthcare bills) to the "showdown at Blair House" tomorrow. Join Americans for Prosperity's townhall meeting by going to www.AmericansForProsperiy.org and watch the "negotiations".
What are they thinking? Again, just what about “no” don’t you understand, President Obama, Reid and Pelosi?
Washington, D.C. politicians shouldn't take over our healthcare system and they can’t create jobs – they can provide tax cuts and step aside so employers create jobs, the economy to recover, and Americans to make their own health care choices.
Congress could learn a lot about how to create jobs from Gov. Rick Perry and the Texas Legislature. Go to: www.GoodNewsInTexas and see how Texas leaders have made the Lone Star State the best economy in the country.

Will Obama try to put lipstick on the pig Wed night? Join AFP to see and comment
Did Obama get the message? Join us Wednesday to see if Obama tries to put lipstick on that pig
Remember Gov. Jon Corzine, a Democrat, who lost his seat in New Jersey in November?
Remember Democrat Creigh Deeds who lost in Virginia’s gubernatorial race?
Remember Democrat Martha Coakley in Massachusetts who was up 30 points in the polls there in her quest for “the Kennedy seat” which she lost to Scott Brown who said he won “the people’s seat”.
Yes, Corzine, Creigh and Coakley all lost. President Obama campaigned for each of them.
Now, there’s no way to put lipstick on that pig.
The question now is – did Obama get the message that Americans are fed up with the corruption, backroom deals and vote buying?
Join us online Wednesday night for the President’s first State of the Union speech…and as we see it, there’s no way to put lipstick on that pig. Join us as we live chat (blog) the State of the Union address – and we welcome your weighing in.
Did Obama get the message Massachusetts voters sent or is Obama in denial? Some advisors’ spin this weekend indicates Obama and his White House may be sipping the Keith Obermann and Rachael Maddow kool-aide.
If Obama, his czars and minions didn’t get the message, it appears some on Capitol Hill did as 12 Congressional D’s are cutting and running. But it appears Obama was blaming it on Bush.
Yes, the people have spoken, but was Obama listening?
What can we expect now? Will Congress and the Administration attempt to ramrod their far-left agenda?
Wednesday night will be our first indication of what is to come.
To view the chat and weigh in on Wednesday, just visit our site www.afptx.org and click on "State of the Union Virtual Watch Party" - a hyperlink will be on that site to comment.

Earmarks, Bailouts, Stimulus spending, oh my!
Some things are like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
I am on the plan returning from a trip to Washington, DC attending the Code Red rally against a government-run health care program. (It was a huge success – over 5,000 people show up at a moment’s notice, then storm the Senate office buildings.)
I almost miss my plane, already on Texas time and thinking I had an hour I didn't have. I hear my name announced over the PA (never a good sign) and walked out of the news stand. I'm thinking now I may have forgotten to pay for my newspaper (wondering – how do I send them my money? I don't look good in orange jumpsuits) and open the Washington Times to see a story on earmarks. Earmarks!
Didn’t President Obama – then candidate Obama – promise to end such a practice? Didn’t he promise transparency? Didn’t he promise change? The only change I see is coming out of my pocket.
You might recall, we at AFP sponsored the Ending Earmarks Express tour a couple of years ago, traveling to such sites as the teapot museum (thanks, American taxpayers, for your generosity in funding that expansion) and see that Congress isn’t satisfied spending the stimulus money.
No, they are back at sharing our limited wealth – your tax dollars – with projects we don’t know about, won’t visit, and would rather not fund.
This time it is a library in Jamestown, S.C. The Washington Times reported this on the front page today. Seems Cong. James E. Clyburn got a request for $50,000 for a one-room library. That’s not enough, he must have thought, so he earmarked $100,000 for their computers and bookshelves. Being a congressman, he knows better than the head – likely only – librarian just what that library needs.
So Congress okays the $100,000 earmark – twice what was requested (which was likely twice what the librarian needed or expected.)
Then Congress proceeds to fund the Jamestown, CA library, not Jamestown, NC. It’s a small 2,700 mile geographic mistake.
So goes how our tax dollars are spent. Misspent. Wasted. All to buy votes and favor back home. All out of our hard-earned paychecks.
And we are even CONSIDERING the government running 1/6th of our economy -- our health care system. "This heart is earmarked for my constituent..." and it ends up several thousands of miles away -- going to the wrong person. I can picture it now, but I digress.
Ending earmarks? We need to launch that tour again. Here we are fighting to kill a government take-over of 1/6th of our US economy, fight to keep a bureaucrat from getting between you and your doctor, fight to stop capping our prosperity and sending our jobs to China, stop labor union thugs from bullying nonunion shops into organizing, and the list goes on.
Fellow Patriots, our work is cut out for us. Have a little Merriment, turkey and dressing, family frivolity and solemn celebration then be ready to start the new year with sleeves rolled up, recharged and reinvigorated.
But before we head off for the holiday, let's kill the bill. This is one train wreck we must avoid.

Let the Death Tax Rest In Peace!
Updated December 02, 2009
By Phil Kerpen
- FOXNews.com
The death tax is fundamentally a moral issue. Americans do not believe that death should be a taxable event.
While the Senate is busy debating a Washington takeover of health care this week, the House will consider outrageous legislation that is getting much less attention: a bill to keep the death tax and make it permanent. The bill, H.R. 4154, would bring the death tax back to life less than a month before its scheduled repeal at the end of this calendar year.
Back in 2001 Congress repealed the death tax with a long phase-out that finally ends this year. Because of a Democratic filibuster, they could only pass the repeal temporarily, for one year in 2010, before the tax returns in full force in 2011. The political calculation was that once the tax finally reached repeal, it would be very difficult to bring it back, especially in an election year. That’s exactly why Democrats are now trying to make the death tax permanent now, with the clock ticking down to repeal on January 1.
The death tax is fundamentally a moral issue. Americans do not believe that death should be a taxable event. The Founders of our country believed this so strongly that they included a clause in the U.S. Constitution that forbids seizing an estate at death as a punishment for treason. Yet we now have a majority party that thinks it’s appropriate to take up to 45 percent of everything a person leaves to his children as a punishment for success, for achieving the American Dream.
The death tax punishes virtue and rewards vice. It tells older Americans: "You can't take it with you, and you can't leave it to your kids." So it discourages the traditional American virtues of hard work and thrift, savings, and investment, while it encourages lavish, reckless consumption.
Morality aside, the tax is bad economics. A new study conducted by former Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin for the American Family Business Foundation quantifies the economic damage wrought by the death tax, finding that repealing the tax would create 1.5 million new small business jobs. Dr. Holtz-Eakin found that repealing the tax would increase small business capital by more than $1.6 trillion, expand payrolls by 2.6 percent, and shave 0.9 percent from the unemployment rate.
With numbers like that, repealing the death tax should be at the top of the “jobs agenda” for the White House and Congress. Instead we see a rush to reverse the scheduled repeal and keep the tax permanently. It’s not because of the cost—the tax is almost certainly a net revenue loser for the federal government, with many studies showing that the revenue increases from other taxes would more than offset the costs of full and permanent death tax repeal.
The only real winners in the push for H.R. 4154 to keep the death tax permanently are the life insurance industry, which makes a fortune selling life insurance policies to families who have no other way to pay the tax without losing the family business. A study by Palmer Schoening of the American Family Business Foundation found that the life insurance industry books about $15 billion a year in premium revenue as a result of the death tax, and has spent upwards of $22 million this year alone lobbying Congress to keep the death tax. They also made hefty campaign contributions to all of the key players, including House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel of New York and Earl Pomeroy, the North Dakota Congressman who is the lead sponsor of H.R. 4154.
The bottom line is the death tax is morally and economically bankrupt, and the effort to keep it permanently, when we are just weeks from it finally being repealed, must be defeated. With all the taxes being proposed lately it sometimes feels like Washington wants to tax us to death. They should at least be so kind as to allow death itself not to be a taxable event.

AFP will take you to Copenhagen for historic global warming conference
In 8 days President Barack Obama will go to Copenhagen, Denmark for the United Nations Climate Change Conference. No doubt, the President intends to commit the United States to an energy rationing scheme that makes the U.S. accountable to U.N. bureaucrats, kills jobs here, dramatically raises the price of gasoline and electricity, and infringes on our personal and national freedoms -- all in the name of a radical global warming ideology that is called into question more and more each day.
As part of our ongoing "Cost of Hot Air" effort, Americans for Prosperity is going to Copenhagen on the same day as the President to make sure that our side of the story is told.
On December 9, AFP will hold a live event from Copenhagen that will broadcast simultaneously at local AFP events across the nation and live at AmericanForProsperity.org. We'll detail the hypocrisy of the U.N. Climate Change Conference and give you the opportunity to send your elected officials a crystal clear message: don't you dare use this U.N. Conference to turn over our nation's energy policy to some international body that could care less about American prosperity.
Phil Kerpen and I will be in Copenhagen hosting an event with Lord Monckton (click here to join the 3.5 million people who have seen his video detailing how our nation could be threatened by international climate agreements) and other European free-market leaders who will detail the hypocrisy of this U.N. conference and explain how cap-and-trade has killed jobs and raised energy prices in their nations.
The anchor event in the United States will be held in Philadelphia at noon that day with AFP's own Steven Lonegan hosting and special guest speaker Steve Moore (FOX News contributor and Wall Street Journal editorial board writer). We'll have more details about these events -- and how you can attend -- within the next few days.
I'm asking you to take 3 steps.
First, let us know you will consider attending one of the FREE "Cost of Hot Air" events near you on December 9, where we'll have the Copenhagen event running live along with local speakers.
Second, if you cannot attend one of the events, view it live at our AmericansforProsperity.org website or better yet, hold your own get-together for family and friends.
Third, please consider sending this email invitation on to your family and friends. We need to make sure the politicians in Washington know that Americans are closely watching the cap-and-trade issue and that the U.N. Conference in Copenhagen changes absolutely nothing.
You've no doubt seen the ClimateGate email scandal that's exploded since a whistle blower in the United Kingdom exposed emails and files showing just how unethical and outrageous the behavior of global warming ideologues has been. They've tried to censor scientists who disagree with them on global warming. They've tried to suppress -and conveniently lost track of -data that contradicts their ideology. They've personally vilified opponents instead of engaging them on the actual issues. All this sounds pretty familiar, doesn't it? But this time, it's being done by scientists instead of politicians.
We're going to be in Copenhagen on December 9 with President Obama -- telling the real story and making sure our Senators see American citizens taking a stand against outsourcing U.S. energy policy to an international body.
But, to accomplish this goal we need your help. And, as always, there’s a high cost associated with this kind of activism. Click here to invest in this battle today. Thank you for all you do.
Tim Phillips, AFP President
PS: Our "Cost of Hot Air" events across the United States on December 9 are our last opportunity in 2009 to send the politicians a message on cap-and-trade -- on the very day that President Obama will be in Copenhagen at the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Get involved and let's make sure they know that the choice for them is clear: side with Americans determined to keep our nation in charge of our own energy policy and economy OR side with U.N. bureaucrats and the extreme Left, which wants to use this conference to get the United States to agree to binding energy rationing limits that will kill jobs, raise gasoline and utility prices and take away many of our freedoms.

AFP President Tim Phillips in WSJ
In response to: Cap and Trade Could Be a Boon to New York by Senator Gillibrand.
Hasn't the country learned its lesson that creating fanciful financial instruments, like derivatives, and allowing Wall Street to bandy them about institutionalizes instability? Carbon derivatives would be even worse than financial instruments that gave us the housing bubble. Cap and trade seeks to create a commodity out of thin air. The government would create a value where none exists. At least the mortgage securities had an actual asset behind them.

Our numbers are up, NetRootsNation numbers are down - we have the momentum on our side.
We at AFP didn't manufacture anger. George Sorus, who funds the Left, has a manufactured memo claiming that we are manufacturing "grassroots." They are demeaning real Americans who are concerned about the Left trying to control our lives.
The Stimulus bill money is slow going out as it is politicized.
We are doing a great job attacking the public option (as we know that is socialized medicine)...and if they take the public option out, it won't e socialist but will be Facist. Government can contrtol it even if it isn't a public plan.
We are also winning on Cap and Trade - four Senate members don't want a vote this year, 9 Democrats don't want Wall Street to benefit - they are fractured... but they 210 to 212 squeaked the House vote. We need Senators aaying to leadership - sorry, but I can't do that in our state.
Are we an industry front? No - industry has carved on these bills. The White House has bought off 85% of the permits to get it passed in the House.
On health care, when the public potion is out, we will be forced to buy industry prducts financed with our tax dollars. MSNBC talks about industry groups behind us - but drug companies are advertising on MSNBC, and the reports just don't get it.
Kerpen also talked about censorship of the Internet - new version HR 3458 is a regulation of the Internet which kills private investment. Do we want the government running the Internet? we must protect our freedom on the INternet.
Hold firm on Health Care and on Cap and Trade - we can defeat the Left.

Norquist addresses RightOnLine
Grover Norquist, author of LEAVE US ALONE, and head of Americans for Tax Reform, spoke nest at RightOnLine in Pittsburg.
We support liberty, more freedom and our coalition holds together because we are there around the table because the issue that moves their vote -- they want the Federal Government to leave them alone!
Good line: NRA members don’t ask for "gun stamps" or promote books in school "Heather has Two Hunters"...we all want to be left alone!
Grover, a movement leader, moves the crowd with his humor and simple message...leave us alone.
We are up against the "takings table" who want freedom to be taken from us. (Folks like the $90,000 a year bureaucrats managing food stamps who don’t want them to get jobs or the bureaucrat will lose theirs.)
The Left is made up of competing parasites, not comrades -- if we don’t let them gnaw on us, they will just as cheerfully go after the guy next to them.
Our team didn't get depressed and go home after the election -- tea parties happened, grassroots activism happened; we avoided the mistake we made in 1996 and 1998 when we focused too much on Bill Clinton's personal failings. They were sad and sad for his family. His agenda was what conservatives should have been focused on, according to Grover.
If Big Gov't were a martini, Obama is just the vermouth...let's focus on what is important.

Read my lips: No new hips
Here at the RightOnLine blogger conference at the Sheraton in Pittsburg in a healthcare session. Speaker Eric Singer, discussing the rationing which is taking place in Canada and other countries, anticipates President Obama's next radio address proclaiming "Read my lips - if you are over 57, no new hips." That's right. Precisely what is happening in countries which have government-run healthcare.
Mind you, the Administration doesn't want to be bogged down in the details. That's simple since the Senate version isn't even available -- though the committee voted for it weeks ago. After all, the U.S. Senate isn't accountable to you and me, the mere taxpayers and voters.
And since Obama won't sign a plan which will increase the deficit, should we worry? That provides a huge laugh line for the HandsOffMyHealthCare bus tour. Who knew Obama would provide such rich fodder for icebreakers?
Why can't we test the government plan? Perhaps on Congressmen and their staff, and why not include federal workers? These folks should e delighted to test drive the government plan and get back to us on it.

Gov. Perry joins Austin July 4th Tea Party
Gov. Rick Perry joins list of speakers for
July 4 “Take Back America” Tea Party
AUSTIN – Americans for Prosperity-Texas announced today that Gov. Rick Perry will join the lineup of conservative leaders speaking at the “Take Back America” Tea Party on July 4 at the state capitol in Austin.
It is the second time Gov. Perry will speak at an Austin Tea Party. The first one, held April 15 at Austin City Hall, drew roughly 2,500 people. A line in the governor’s speech that day became the central message for the July 4 Tea Party: “Cut spending, cut taxes, shrink the size of government and re-read the Constitution!”
The theme of the rally is “Take Back America,” and will encourage the “silent” majority to voice that message to elected officials in Washington, D.C.
“Washington D.C., should look to Texas as a model,” said Peggy Venable, AFP-Texas director. “Under the conservative leadership in this state, Texas has become the top state in the country for job creation, we have the most Fortune 500 companies, more government transparency, are the largest exporting state, and still were able to balance our budget and leave $9 billion in the rainy day fund.”
Texas is the only large state in the country to have a balanced budget.
“The leaders in Washington, D.C. appear to be following the California plan,” said Venable, “and that is a recipe for disaster. Texas is the beacon of fiscal sanity and national leaders could learn from the Texas model.”
The Tea Party is a family event and – along with inspiring speeches – will provide information for citizens who want to learn how to help Take Back America. The Tea Party is part of a nationwide grassroots movement made up of individuals who are fed up with the unprecedented spending and expansion of the federal government.

CORNYN: HERE'S THE BLUEPRINT FOR A REAL STIMULUS
On Monday, President Barack Obama argued that we cannot rely on the same strategies that got our economy into this crisis to get us out of it. I agree. I voted against the economic stimulus bill as it moved through Congress – and will vote against the final bill today – because I believe it replicates a failed strategy. A stimulus bill is a good idea if it's focused on the right priorities, which was Obama's original vision. The administration said it wanted a bill that was timely, targeted and temporary. If the bill had reflected that spirit, the president's goal of 80 votes in the Senate might well have been in reach. But we never saw the bill the president said he wanted. Democrats in Congress redefined "stimulus" to mean nearly anything any of them desired, with predictable results.

AFP: leading the drilling ban countdown
AFP is making the blogging circuit as policy director Phil Kerpen provides direction and a Congressional action (and inaction) blow-by-blow
From Phil Kerpen, Americans for Prosperity, “A Stunning Pro-Drilling Victory“:
With the clock ticking down to what some are calling “Energy Freedom Day” — October 1, 2008, when the congressional bans on offshore oil drilling and onshore oil-shale development are set to expire — anti-drilling Democrats have backed down from a high-stakes stand-off that could have caused a government shutdown and will now result in the complete demise of the drilling bans. This is a stunning victory for grassroots activists over environmental special interests and business-as-usual in Washington. If not derailed, it also will be great news for all American consumers.
Phil follows with a blow-by-blow of how opponents of the ban achieved their legislative goal.
