Friendswood Council Member Mike Barker admits involvement in city efforts to purchase property outside the Friendswood city limits and from a friend of 30-years, David White. But he reserves his right to do business with White in the future. No matter -- the City doesn't have jurisdiction to purchase land outside their jurisdiction. Barker spends over 6 minutes railing on those "ruthless" citizen watchdogs who dare challenge the City leaders' right to ignore the City charter. You can't make this stuff up!

The person Barker is referring to is named Wight. You can't even get the name right.
And "Wight" is pronounced "White", and that is your biggest problem with this whole situation?
So I guess you're o.k. with the hefty penalties that were set-up for the City to pay if the City drops out (you're the one who read the Contract, right)?
Are you also happy with Barker calling the citizens who disagree "ruthless"?
Did you realize that the 131 ORRs Holbert remarked on were since the beginning of 2009 and not all on this topic?
Do u think anyone on city council is a crook? Do u believe or know that any of them have profited from being on city council?
As the author of this blog post, I will say I do not know and am not accusing anyone of wrongdoing. I do think it is inappropriate to puchase land from soneone you have done or do business with. And for that individual to be "improving" the land for a sale which appears to be very uncertain.
Furthermore, it is unusual that this land must be outside the Friendswood city limits, particularly since the city charter does not allow for that and the AG wrote that it needed to expressly be allowed in the city charter.
As clarification: I am accusing the city council of activity inappropriate to their position, moving forward on incuring debt when the City Charter doesn't allow for it except in specific circulstances (which this action does not qualify as) without voter approval. I am not accusing anyone at this time of any illegal activity.
